One of the best ways to celebrate Decemberfest is to make a great cup of tea, take a hot bath, and enjoy some throwback candy from former East Germany. Fortunately for you, all of those things are available as gifts today, so all you have to do is put on a Charles Mingus record (sorry, we don't have any records as gifts) and leave a comment below!
When the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, it signalled the end of the German Democratic Republic and the beginning of a new, reunified Germany. During the fifty years of East Germany's existence, lots of interesting commodities were produced, like the plastic-clad Trabant automobile — but we weren't able to get our hands on one of these for Decemberfest.
In lieu of a historical car, the German website MemorySweets is giving away a box of authentic East German candy for Decemberfest. The sweets in this box are rare candies that were popular in the former GDR. Having personally tasted several of the treats that are being given away by MemorySweets, I can assure you that the winner will be quite satisfied with this little taste of history.
