Call us biased, but we think people from Hamburg, Germany are pretty cool. Especially Saskia van der Heijden and her husband Muhammad Ilham Nirwan. Their boutique clothing line, Marapulai, features a collection of custom-designed, hand-made shoes, and each style is a limited release. Be careful, though, because giving your feet a pair of these paw-protectors for Christmas may make your other appendages jealous.
Marapulai is a small, two-person opperation in Hamburg, but they're supporting small businesses all the way in Ilham's home country of Indonesia as well. Ilham travels to Indonesia several times a year to work with small factories there to make his latest shoe ideas a reality. With an intense focus on the details of his designs, Ilham sees his vision through from start to finish, producing quality kicks for you that are sure to have everyone following your footsteps.
Between their fair product prices and an insistence on partnering with small factories that provide quality working conditions, Marapulai has a keen understanding of social responsibility. And anyone who has the opportunity to meet Saskia and Ilham personally can tell immediately that they put a lot of love into their business, as well as the people who help make it possible.
Thanks to Saskia and Ilham, one lucky person on this 13th day of December who comments on this blog post or retweets our daily Decemberfest tweet will win a pair of Marapulai's custom kicks. We like the ones pictured above, but if those aren't your style, check out the rest of your options in Marapulai's current collection. Don't worry if you can't read the German, I'll get Dan to help you out.*
*Correction: Marapulai has a Google Translate widget in the sidebar that allows you to easily translate all the text on their site into your local language. Check out our Tools page to find this widget and so many others to use on your own Jimdo website.
