Mexico City/San Francisco, January 19, 2012 - Jimdo & Google today launched http://www.conectatunegocio.com.mx (Connect Your Business) in partnership with major Mexican economic and educational institutions. Their aim: get small businesses in Mexico on the web.
The initiative helps Mexican businesses build effective Internet presences. At the launch ceremony in Mexico City, Miguel Marón Undersecretary of Economy said, “Mexico has 4.3 million SMBs, 99.8% of all economic units in the country. SMBs provide 7 out of 10 jobs; that’s why it is necessary to strengthen their development.”
Jimdo is offering a free year of JimdoPro, including a domain name, email account, customizable professional templates, Jimdo’s award-winning website building tool, and premium Spanish-language technical support. Jimdo’s intuitive interface enables entrepreneurs to create websites and online stores without having to code. Business owners can update their sites online from any computer; all changes are in real time.
Conecta tu Negocio is Jimdo and Google’s second partnership to make websites available to small businesses. Last September, Jimdo, Google, and industry leaders in Japan established minbiz.jp, jump-starting the online presence of thousands of Japanese businesses.
Christian Springub, one of Jimdo’s three founders, looks forward to seeing more of Mexico’s businesses online. “Having a website is indispensable for all companies, big and small, and it needn’t be difficult or expensive. With Jimdo, Mexican entrepreneurs gain a critical tool for business: their own website.” The project partners expect 50,000 businesses to build websites in the first year.
Jimdo – Pages to the People (http://www.jimdo.com) was founded in February 2007 by three young entrepreneurs–Christian Springub, Fridtjof Detzner, and Matthias Henze–in an old farmhouse. The technology powering Jimdo was developed as a content management service for business clients, but frequent requests from friends gave the founders the idea to offer free JimdoPages. In just a few minutes, anyone–no technical knowledge required–can get a website online, complete with blog, photo galleries, video, online store, and social media integration. Funding from industry leaders like the Samwer brothers (CityDeal/Groupon, Facebook, LinkedIn), allowed Jimdo to scale quickly, and it is now available in 11 languages. In May 2011, the 4,000,000th Jimdo site went online. Follow us on Twitter @jimdo.
