importing an external blog (via rss feed) with images

Postby joshuaheld.jimdo.com » Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:07 am

hi

I am trying Jimdo out and I find it really suits my needs. I'm on the point of buying a pro account and finishing my site.
The only thing I can't figure out is how to add an external blog as an RSS feed without losing the images in the posts. So far, I can't seem to do this.
If I add an RSS feed (atom or else) on my trial Jimdo site, all I get are the post titles. No images. Since my posts are only images, this is actually a problem for me.

I presently have a sort-of-site on flavours.me, where, for all the things you can't do, this is the only one that seems to work. When I add my blog (which is a Typepad one) to the services, the images are also imported.

I want to abandon Flavours.me as soon as possible and a Jimdo Pro seems to be, aside for this doubt I have which really I hope can get some workaround, the perfect solution.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

thank you very much,
Josh

The RSS feed module is very basic but I do remember it displays pictures when you toggle "Add description" in the module settings. I'm not sure it's how they say it in the english version of this module, but when I toggle this in my RSS feed module, the pictures are displayed.

hi filmsdelover, thank you for answering

in fact, I did toggle the "show description" button but it still only displays post titles and the very rare bits of text I put into them. No images at all. As said, my blog is made up only of cartoons, so the way it appears to work now is pretty useless to me.

It came to my mind it could be Typepad's fault in that it may not be 'feeding' properly, so I tried to import other kinds of feeds.
I tried Feedburner's feed to the same blog and also a Wordpress blog of mine (to try something different from Typepad), but still no images.

The fact you say your RSS displays images means it does work and that makes me confident I can solve this problem.

I will ask support, as I can't find any topic on the community regarding this particular issue.

thanks,
Josh

I wrote to Support to ask about this but so far I haven't had any answer.
Only two days have passed, not too long I guess, so maybe they'll catch up with me...

I hope so because I really would like to get my pro account going.

If it's just pictures, why don't you just republish the posts using the blog module from Jimdo ?

true, filmsdelover, I know I could do that but I have had three blogs going for a while and I'd like to just post once and keep stuff nicely in one place. Cross-posting is pretty much the way now, I think.
As said, I've been feeding my blogs through a flavours.me site for a couple of years.
Flavours.me is by far less versatile than Jimdo, you can really do very little with it (almost nothing, in fact), but it did allow me to show my blogs.

You said you are able to see images in your RSS feeds on Jimdo, so there must be a solution.
Before I upgrade to Pro I just need to have a confirmation from Support that this can be done on my site too.

I read they are moving their headquarters or something, so I suppose I'll have to wait a while. Still, I hope they answer soon... :)

thanks

I'm able to see pictures from the RSS feed from my website, that said. It's not a RSS feed from another blog so it might be why it works. There used to be a feature where you could "Import blog posts from a RSS feed" but it wasn't working really well.

They'll get back to you at some point, don't worry. ;)

Hi Josh!

I just tested your RSS feed and I wasn't able to see the images either. Would you be able to take a look at your Feedburner settings and see if it's something in there blocking images from being displayed? Can you also take a look at the settings for TypePad as well to see if there's anything on there that could contribute to this?

Let me know how that goes!

hi William,

I checked Feedburner and Typepad and settings there seem to be OK.
The counter-proof of this is that my blog(s) do into the Flavours.me site i cited.
Here it is:
http://www.joshuaheld.com/#fe6/typepad

(this is the site I would like to leave ASAP in favor of a Jimdo Pro one)

Just to be sure I tried adding the RSS again, and it worked fine. Images and YouTube videos show up as they should.
Taking on your suggestion, what I can do further is open a ticket with Typepad Support, explaining this particular situation, and see if they have suggestions to make.

thank you for your help :)

I just got a reply to a ticket I opened with Typepad Support. Here is the answer:

"Thanks for your note. When I check your feed, it looks like the images
are showing so everything is set up properly in your TypePad account.
You'll want to contact Jimdo for any additional assistance. "

In the meanwhile, yesterday, Jimdo Support answered to an email I previously sent. They say that they acknowledge the problem.

All I can do now is hope they have a fix for this.
I really really want to buy a Pro account and finish my site.
