Break up a loooong page in several

Postby islamic-sms-greetings.jimdo.com on 28 Oct 2009, 15:34

Hello,

there are no so many entries on my page that - for better readibility - i would like distribute them on several pages. Analogous to the way the forum entries are distributed on several pages with the buttons 1...to ..4 at the bottom.
Is that possible?
Thanks

You can certainly create as many additional pages as you want -- you can even create those text links at the bottom of the page if you want. You'd have to do it by hand though, there isn't an "automatic" page generator to split up the content like there is for the forum.

I was looking at your site though, and I couldn't figure out which page you were referring to that had gotten too long. It actually looks fine to me.

Hi,

thanks for the reply. The actual sub-subpage i am referring to is this one:
http://www.islamic-sms-greetings.de/sms ... ral-texts/

I was considering just splitting the content up manually but I don't know how to add the respective links at the bottom. Could you advice, please?
Thanks a lot

Let me see if I can explain...

You could make several pages to split up the texts (maybe make them hidden, except for the first, main one).

Name them something like general texts 2, general texts 3, general texts 4.

Then, create a text box at the top and/or bottom of each page. In there, just put the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4. Then, highlight each number, click on the "link" button, and create a link to the corresponding page.

Repeat for each page so that your visitors can click back and forth.

Does that make sense?

Hi and thanks for the help.

Your suggestion makes perfect sense. It works well but there is a very interesting "challenge":
I broke up the original page into 5 subs. I created the link-textbox on the first page and started linking to the other 4 sub-pages. All links worked well except for the link to page 4 where i get an error-message saying that "the server could not be found". Curiously, directly clicking on the page in the menue leads to the page just fine. First i thought, there is a limitation to the number of sub-pages but the link to page 5 work fine as well.
I checked page 4 but it is not different in terms of characters/size/whatever.

Ooh, I almost forgot the coolest thing: the linkage to page 4 DOES work as long as I do the following: on the first page, I created the link to page 4 first and no other links. It works. I add the link to page 2 - and the link to page 4 still works. I add the link to page 3 - and the link to page 4 breaks.

What am I missing?

Hm, that was very odd. I think it may have just been a passing problem. I was able to repair it on this page (http://www.islamic-sms-greetings.de/sms ... ummie/gt2/) by deleting the whole "page number" and re-creating the text and adding the links.

Thanks for the fixing.

Since you think this might be a passing problem - should I go back to the drawing board and try all over?

No, you just need to re-enter the text with the page number links.
