Beautiful Images For Your Website

Great photographs are an essential part of a beautiful website. Adding several stunning images can transform your Jimdo site into an exciting, memorable hub for your visitors and customers. When putting images on your site, there's a lot to keep in mind, like placement, dimensions, and file size.

Before you can begin to consider anything else, there's a very important question: Where do you get magnificent photos without spending a ton of money? One way, of course, is to use your own photographs — but many of us aren't professional photographers. The best way to get professional photos on your website is to use stock photography. Below, we'll tell you about one paid option and one free option for acquiring stock photos.

Exclusive Offer from Fotolia

Fotolia runs one of the largest stock photo repositories in the world. On the site you can purchase high-quality stock photography at affordable prices. Jimdo users can sign up for a free Fotolia account and receive a special bonus: five free photo credits and a 30% discount on their first purchase. To redeem this excellent offer from Fotolia, click here if you are located in Europe, or visit this page if you live anywhere else in the world.

Pixabay's Stock Photo Community

Pixabay is an excellent website for discovering and downloading free stock photos. The community at Pixabay is dedicated to finding high-quality, royalty-free images that can be used on personal and commercial websites. By registering for a free account, you will be able to access a huge collection of superb stock images that will help make your Jimdo site attractive and engaging.

We hope you enjoy using Fotolia and Pixabay to add beautiful images to your Jimdo site. After you have found some images, you should check out our design tutorial to learn more about using images on your website. Comment below and show us how you've used stock photography to enhance your pages.

Happy Birthday: Jimdo Turns 6

Update: List of JimdoPro subscription winners

Today is a day for celebration. Raise your glasses, everyone, and let's give a toast to Jimdo.

Exactly six years ago today, Jimdo was founded by Christian, Matthias, and Fridtjof. About 3,163,680 minutes have passed since then, and millions of Jimdo sites have been created. In fact, more than two Jimdo sites have been created every single minute since the day Jimdo was founded.

A lot has happened in the world of Jimdo over the years. Naturally the product itself has gotten better and better, and new features are added all the time. We've also moved our headquarters a couple of times — after starting out in a small farmhouse in Luedingworth, we feel quite luxurious in our four-story office building in Hamburg. 117 people (and 5 dogs!) work together, eat together, and play together in that office. We've also spread around the globe, and our team now has offices in San Francisco, Tokyo, and Shanghai.

One thing is for sure: We couldn't have done it without you. These six years have been incredible because you have been incredible. These six years have seen Jimdo spread around the globe because you spread the word. These six years have been the best of our lives, and we're so happy that you have been there to support us. Thank you for everything.

To say thanks for the past six years, we are going to give away four one-year subscriptions to JimdoPro. All you have to do is leave a comment below before February 24, 2013 — make sure that you leave some way for us to get in touch with you if you win! Everyone can participate, even people who have never used Jimdo before, so pass this post along to friends and family who have been thinking about starting a website.

And, as a second thank you, we're adding a new layout to JimdoFree today: F4222. This layout features a large header section and has the sidebar on the bottom. We're excited to see what sort of sites you make with this new layout.

Happy birthday, Jimdo. Here's to the next six — or hopefully sixty — years!

Our New Personal Training Workshop

We are excited to announce our new Personal Training workshop, which takes place on Wednesday, February 20th, at 3:00PM PST (GMT -8). In the past we have offered workshops covering Jimdo basics, search engine optimization, and social media strategy, but this new workshop is whatever you want it to be. Bring your questions to us and we'll answer them during a live, one-hour presentation.

This workshop is perfect for anyone who has already spent a bit of time using Jimdo and wants some help with the nuances of building a site. Whatever you need help with, we're here for you. We'd love to discuss setting up a store, optimizing your site for search engines, using social media on your pages, best practices for websites, and whatever else you want to talk about.

Bring specific questions about your site or general questions about website building to our workshop this Wednesday for a chance to have them answered by a member of the Jimdo team in San Francisco. We will answer as many questions as we can in an hour, and we guarantee that you'll leave having learned something new about Jimdo.

Register for the workshop now and we'll send you an email with a reminder so that you don't miss out.

If you can't make it this week, keep an eye on our Workshops page to register for the next Personal Training workshop. We also offer a Getting Started workshop for anyone who is new to Jimdo and wants a solid foundation for building a great website.

We look forward to seeing all of you Wednesday!

JimdoTV Episode 4: Bobsmade

The fourth episode of JimdoTV features Bobsmade, a German company that makes custom-designed art and clothing. Bobsmade gave away a surprise package to a lucky Jimdo user for Decemberfest, and in this episode of JimdoTV we get to meet the people behind the beautiful products. Lisa, the founder of Bobsmade, is a really interesting person, and she talks to our host Ria about how Bobsmade got started, what sorts of designs people ask for, and how long it takes to complete a custom design.

Make sure to check out the JimdoTV page to catch up on any episodes you missed — it's really awesome to get to know the great people behind awesome Jimdo sites.
