A Letter from Jimdo's Founders

Thank you for using Jimdo. Thank you for building so many cool websites, thank you for all of your feedback, thank you for telling your friends about Jimdo. We thank all of you wholeheartedly.

We had a big year in 2012. Our team in Hamburg grew from 75 to 125 people — we also have 10 people in San Francisco, 7 in Tokyo, and 5 in Shanghai. Having a bigger team allows us to keep up with Jimdo's tremendous growth. We're now able to work on all the features that you've been asking for, and we can answer your questions much more quickly. We didn't release as many new features in 2012 as we wanted to, but now all the pieces are in place to make 2013 a fantastic year for Jimdo.

In 2012 we changed the structure of our development team. We divided one large development team into smaller teams that work independently on specific aspects of Jimdo. That means one team is working on our design features, another is creating new elements, and another is making our servers more stable. We're especially excited about the store team, which is working hard to make Jimdo a robust e-commerce platform. The first feature that they'll release is discount codes, which you can use to give special deals to customers in your stores.

Since Jimdo started, we have registered more than seven million websites. In 2012 alone two million new websites were created with Jimdo, which was our best year yet. We hope that even more people discover Jimdo in 2013.

At the beginning of 2012, Jimdo was offered an eight-figure financing round, which we turned down. Taking money from investors would mean that we would have to sell the company someday, but we have so much fun working with the Jimdo team that we never want to do that. We're really happy with the decision we made. We have less capital than our competitors, but we remain an independent company. We get to work the same way we always have: Profitably. We finance our own growth, and we're building our own future

We're proud of the entire Jimdo team. Everyone here is motivated to make Jimdo better for you. It's incredibly fun to work with such a great team, and we're so excited for everything that Jimdo will become in 2013.

Here we go.

The Jimdo Review: We Are Headed North

On today's episode of The Jimdo Review, William joins me to talk about his new tutorial for creating a blog archive on a JimdoPage. We also discuss an awesome photography website that he came across earlier this week.

Show Notes

Awesome JimdoPage

  • Our awesome JimdoPage today is BlueSplashImages, a fantastic photography site.
  • I love the way that BlueSplashImages uses the P4194 layout to create a simple, clear navigation.
  • William notes how well BlueSplashImages shows off its photographs and draws a visitor in right away with a huge image on the homepage.

User Question

  • Someone asked how to move elements from one page to another, and we show how easy that is to do with Jimdo
  • If you have a question that you'd like us to answer on The Jimdo Review, just write it below in the comments.

Other Notes

  • We'll be back in a couple of weeks with another episode of The Jimdo Review. If there's anything special you'd like to see, just let us know in the comments.
  • We love to see the sites that you're working on — send us a tweet or post on our Facebook page and show off your site, and maybe you'll get featured on the next episode of The Jimdo Review.

Thanks a lot for watching The Jimdo Review. We'll post another episode in two weeks. Make sure that you subscribe to our YouTube channel if you want to see The Jimdo Review as soon as it's released.
