Good News for Photographers - Improved Color Profile

Photos bring every website to life! That's why our newest improvement is special, for photographers in particular, but for everyone else who has photos on their site! Starting today, all new images on your Jimdo will have correct color profiles.

Previously, the system simplified these profiles, but now they're totally preserved and will display exactly as in the original photos. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference (see the example below) but those of you with keen eyes and the professional photographers will notice the difference right away the next time you upload a photo!

Every image has a certain color profile. this profile is converted so that it becomes information that every browser can understand. That means your images will no longer display different in different browsers -- they'll be consistent in all their glory. Important: this color profile update only applies to newly uploaded photos. All the images already on your website will stay in there current quality and colors.

This improvement is the result of feedback from many Jimdo users who are professional and hobby photographers. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and suggestions for improvements with us. We'd like to thank Jürgen Müller in particular, who ended up working with Michael from our development team. His direct professional feedback was extremely helpful for Michi!

Jürgen on the improvements:

"Images on JimdoPages are now displayed with true color fidelity. This capability is immensely important for photographers. I'm happy that I could help Jimdo implement it."

Thank you again Jürgen for your help, your fellow photographers appreciate it!

Google Maps Refresh

You're already familiar with Jimdo's Google Maps element -- many of you are using it to show a business location, to pinpoint a special travel destination, or another clever use of this mapping tool. We wanted to make this popular site element better for you. Thanks to the hard work of our development team, we're unveiling a complete refresh of the Google Maps element, including a brand-new interface and additional features!

  • Now with integrated driving directions: Visitors to your site can enter their starting point and have Google Maps calculate the best way to get there -- and they can print them out to take them along for the trip!
  • Street View option (not available in all countries)
  • Automatic placemark naming: When you click to create a new placemark, it automatically gets titled with the address of the place you've centered the map on. If you move the placemark, the name changes!
  • Change map height on the fly: You can customize the vertical dimension of the map now, and best of all -- when you click the arrows, the size of the element adjusts itself live.

Hope you enjoy the new Google Maps features, and let us know what you think in the comments below!

Enough words, you can catch a glimpse into the world of Jimdo in this video. Don't forget to take a look at our current job postings :)

(and if you speak German, look at Jimdo's German jobs)

Don't Miss It: Jimdo's Search Engine Optimization Guide now online

Google, Yahoo, Bing, and more -- search engines are a perennially popular topic around here. One of the most common questions our support team gets is "how can I make my page easier to find in search engines?"

JimdoPages are search-engine optimized from the get-go, that means from Day 1, you're starting off with the best foundation for good ranking with Google. We've put together some tips for you to make some additional efforts and increase the chances for your site to rank highly.

Don't worry, you don't need to be an SEO expert in order to follow our suggestions. Most of the changes and tweaks you can make it directly on your JimdoPage and there are also general explanations about SEO.

Click here to jump to our SEO tips (also available as a download below)

We hope that our suggestions and explanations help you -- give them a try, it'll be worth it! We'd love to hear feedback, suggestions for improvements, and ideas. And just one note: although we did our research when putting together this guide, and we know from experience that it should help you increase your search engine rankings, there's no guarantee. But that's life and the internet!

The guide also just scratches the surface of the vast wealth of information available about optimizing your site for search engines. For example, take a few minutes to watch SEOMoz's "SEO 101" video embedded below.

In Italy this fall? Visit the Komikazen Festival in Ravenna this weekend!

Do you like comics? Visit the 6th International Komikazen Reality Comic Festival in Ravenna, Italy from October 8 - 10th, 2010. Or if you can't make it to that, the exhibitions will be taking place until November 7th, 2010.

Join other lovers of graphic novels, comics, and art in this sixth annual weekend gathering full of workshops, exhibitions, and meetings.

Among the featured artists:

Pablo Auladell | Apostolos Doxiadis | Maxence Emery | Igort

Maxilimilen Le Roy | Alecos Papadatos | Pietro Scarnera | Aleksandar Zograf

The festival is free!

For more information about the history and current exhibitions, visit the festival's JimdoPage: komikazenfestival.org

Mirada has organised extensive exhibitions and workshops with comic-strip writers such as Joe Sacco, Marjane Satrapi, Aleksandar Zograf, Danijel Zezelj, and many others. It has organised the Komikazen International Reality Comic Festival each year since 2005.

The need to 'tell it as it is' is becoming urgent in an era in which it is becoming ever more difficult to understand whether or not what we are being told is reliable and truthful.

In the world of comics, characterised through antonomasia by the patina of careless people, an imaginative source of the fantastic and absolutely unreal, the trend of real story telling is, when all is said and done, fairly old (obviously in the meaning that this adjective can have when we are speaking of this medium). The autobiographical, memoir oriented, historic and news reporting tendency has always been present and has always been ingrained in many of the grand masters of sequential art.
