Email Accounts and Forwarders

What's the Difference?

Think of an email address like a street address - and a forwarding address like a post office box.

A PO Box is an address where you do not really live - your "real" address is elsewhere. A forwarding address (or email alias or forwarder) is the same principle: it is not a real email address, and no email is stored there.

The three most important things you have to know are:

  1. You cannot use the same email address (me@mysite.com) as both a forwarding address and a real email address.
  2. You cannot send email from a forwarding address -  you will need another (real) email address in order to send email.
  3. Your "real" email address should be one you like having on your outgoing emails!

Creating an Email Account

Before you get started, decide what you want your email address to be. Here's a hint: "info" is not that informative.

1

Log into your Jimdo website and go to Settings > Email and Domain Management > Email Accounts.

2

Now click on "Add a new account" on the right side.

3

Type in the name of your email account and the password.

Please Note: If you have two or more domains connected to your site, you can choose which domain you would like to use for the email address from the drop down menu.

Migrating Emails to Jimdo

If you had email with your old domain registrar that you'd like to keep, you can easily move them over to your Jimdo email with Audriga. For a small fee, Audriga will copy your current email messages into your new Jimdo email without any go-arounds or weird technical terms.
