Transferring Domains
NOTE: According to ICANN rules, a domain can only be transferred once every 60 days. If you have recently registered/purchased a domain, you will need to wait until that 60-day periond concludes before transferring it to or from Jimdo.
Transferring An Existing Domain to Jimdo
Before deciding to transfer your domain to Jimdo, please be advised that any email accounts currently using the domain will stop working after the transfer takes place. You can recreate the accounts after the transfer, but you will need to change the settings for your email software and you may have to purchase addtional addresses if you do not have enough in your subscription package.
If you would like to keep your existing email setup, you should not transfer your domain, but instead leave your domain with the existing registrar and connect the domain to your Jimdo account using a CNAME. See our Connecting Domains help article for more information.
I'm ready to transfer my domain, what do I need to do?
To transfer your domain to Jimdo, you need to start by contacting your existing domain registrar - this is the company with which you originally registered your domain. Inform them that you would like to transfer your domain and ask that they unlock your domain for transfer and generate an authorization code, or auth code.
Also, double check that the administrative contact email account for the domain is up to date and is an account that you can access. This is important.
When they email you the auth code, send that code to Jimdo support along with the name of your domain and Jimdo account. Please make sure that you send this information to Jimdo support from the email address that you used to register with Jimdo so that we can verify your domain ownership and process your request immediately. After we recieve the code, we will initiate the transfer process which will begin with our system sending an automated email to the administrative contact email address. The message will contain a verification link that you must click for the process to complete. After successfully clicking on the link, the domain may take 24-48 hours to propagate and work properly on all computers and mobile devices.
If you do not recieve the automated email message, please check your spam folder and verify that you indeed have access to the administrative contact email address that was setup for the domain with your old domain registrar.
Please Note: In addition to not being able to trasfer domains within the first 60 days of purchase, domain transfers should be started at least 15 days prior to the domain's expiration date. Last minute transfers will likely fail and result in your domain expiring at your current registrar. In cases like this you will often be charged a recovery fee from your previous domain registrar before starting a new transfer attempt.
Which domains can I transfer to Jimdo?
Because of country restrictions, Jimdo can only accept transfers of the following domains:
.com
.net
.org
.info
.biz
.de
.at
.ch
.fr
Transferring a Domain FROM Jimdo to Another Registrar
If you would like to transfer a domain that you registered with Jimdo, please contact Jimdo support and request an authorization code for your domain. This process will unlock your domain for transfer.
Please make sure to email Jimdo support from the email address with which you registered for Jimdo so that we can verify your domain ownership and respond to your request immediately.
Please Note: Transferring a domain will not cancel your Jimdo account. Your site will still be visible by accessing your jimdo subdomain (yourwebsite.jimdo.com).
