WHOIS and Domain Privacy
The internet is governed by a body known as The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). One rule that they established states that domain registration information is a matter of public record and is freely available on the internet. The full specific rule is visible here.
What Does This Mean for Jimdo Users?
This means that domain registration information provided to Jimdo may be visible to the public and in Google searches via sites such as http://www.whois.net.
If you don't want your domain to be visible to the public, we recommend that you transfer your domain to a different domain registrar that provides whois protection and then simply point your site to your JimdoPage (instructions for this process can be found here). Unfortunately, we don't offer whois protection at this time.
You may also supply alternative contact information such as a business telephone number and PO Box to use in lieu of your personal information. A valid contact email address and an individual's name are required in all circumstances.
