Statistics - Google Analytics for Your Site

Wonder who has been on your site, or which pages are working and which are not? That's where Statistics come in. Jimdo's Statistics module is built on top of Google Analytics (GA) - meaning it's fast, thorough, and accurate.

You'll find it in the Site Admin as the second item from the bottom.

The first time you click on the Statistics Settings button, you'll be asked whether you want to activate statistics. The reason is that Google Analytics collects data from your website's visitors, so when you activate your Statistics module for the first time, a privacy policy will automatically appear in the footer of your website (required for Google Analytics). Once activated, it will take a few days before you'll see any statistics.

What Statistics Tell You

A few days after you activate Statistics, the overview page will look something like this:

At the top of the page you'll see a row of tabs for switching between new and old statistics and your external Google Analytics account (Custom statistics).

We'll be looking at the line of tabs underneath, which is where the actual statistical information can be seen. No need to despair if you don't get a lot of traffic at first - that's normal.

By Day

If you are getting a lot more traffic on certain days, you may want to look into the reason why: did you post a new blog article on that day, or write in an external forum?

By Page

Here you can see which of your pages works best - or at least which pages visitors click on more frequently.

Keywords

If you've already added keywords to your website, you can see how well they are working. This tab shows you the most frequently searched terms that led people to visiting your website.

Search Engines

Google, Bing, Yahoo and others. If you are putting most of your SEO efforts into one search engine and see here that another search engine is also popular with your users, you might focus a bit more on that one as well.

Referrer

See which incoming links are working best.

Browser

This tab can be very helpful, as not all browsers are created equal. If a large number of your users are using older browsers (and your website uses complicated Javascript or CSS), you should make sure your content is optimized for these browsers too.

Also: if you see mobile browsers here, make sure your website is optimized for mobile use!

Custom Statistics

The following users may want to get a full account from Google Analytics:

  • You are a JimdoFree user (JimdoFree accounts do not include the built-in statistics feature).
  • You already have an Analytics account and use the advanced options there (you can use both GA and Jimdo Statistics).
  • You don't like the standard Jimdo-approved Privacy Policy and want to write your own.

Once you get the embeddable code from Google, you can simply paste it into the Custom Statistics tab.
