San Francisco, February 23, 2012 - Jimdo today celebrates its five millionth website, right in time for the website builder’s fifth anniversary. In every single country of the world, at least one Jimdo website has been created. This persistent worldwide growth is fueled by international partnerships like those with Google in Mexico and Japan, and a strong focus on product development
The Jimdo founders attribute Jimdo’s growth to their product focus, internationalization, and customer support. “Since the first version of Jimdo, we’ve rebuilt almost everything, improved and
upgraded the system. It’s really important to us to pioneer innovation in this industry,” say Jimdo founders Matthias Henze, Christian Springub, and Fridtjof Detzner.
The founders pay close attention to company culture, making sure working at Jimdo stays fun even as teams grow. “The atmosphere we have now is unique,” says Springub, “While we want to continue to grow, we also want to keep the environment we’ve created.” To do this, the Jimdo founders have invented what might be an entirely new line of work: the Happiness Lobby.
Since mid-2011, Magdalena Bethge has been improving Jimdo’s work environs; she makes sure each team member’s routine is as pleasant as possible. “We’re sure Magda’s job, one of the first of its
kind in Germany, will play an important role in many companies in the future,” says Matthias Henze. “Our team members spend a significant part of their day here at work. If they’re happy and
comfortable, it encourages friendly collaboration and strengthens their connection to the company.” While Magdalena keeps an eye on Jimdo’s heart, Amaradjan “Sam” Samake is in charge of its
stomach. His motto as he feeds his colleagues every day is “gourmet, not grub.”
Having doubled to 100 team members in the last year, Jimdo is adding 20 more in the first half of 2012; teams in Hamburg and San Francisco are moving to larger offices; and Jimdo China and Japan are hiring. Fridtjof Detzner says, “We want to strengthen our existing teams so we can continue to offer the very best service to the owners of what’s now over five million websites.”
Jimdo – Pages to the People (http://www.jimdo.com) was founded in February 2007 by three young entrepreneurs–Christian Springub, Fridtjof Detzner, and Matthias Henze–in an old farmhouse. The technology powering Jimdo was developed as a content management service for businesses, but frequent requests from friends gave the founders the idea to offer free JimdoPages. In just a few minutes, anyone–no technical knowledge required–can get a website online, complete with blog, photo galleries, video, online store, and social media integration. Funding from industry leaders like the Samwer brothers (CityDeal/Groupon, Facebook, LinkedIn), allowed Jimdo to scale quickly, and it is now available in 11 languages. In February 2012, the 5,000,000th Jimdo site went online. Follow us on Twitter @jimdo.
