New Domain

When you place a JimdoPro order, you also get to pick your own domain (.com, .us, .de, .info, .org, .net, .biz). Apart from those, there are a few other domains (see the Domain Surcharges section) that you can choose from, for a small extra charge.

Use your existing domain

If you already have a domain, there are three ways for you to direct it to your Jimdo page.

Notice: The e-mail account from Jimdo can only be used if you change your DNS.

Simple redirect

Set a redirect from your domain (hosted at your registrar) to your Jimdo-Page. If you're unsure about where to make these adjustments in your domain management, please contact your registrar.

CNAME entry in your DNS

You are using email addresses and/or other services like subdomains through your registrar. If so, ask your registrar to make a "CNAME entry" in your account or do so yourself in your registrar's domain settings.

Insert the following two entries into your DNS:

yourdomain.xx CNAME xxx.jimdo.com
www.yourdomain.xx CNAME xxx.jimdo.com

example for yourname.jimdo.com with domain yourname.com

yourname.com CNAME yourname.jimdo.com
www.yourname.com CNAME yourname.jimdo.com

Change the nameservers (DNS) to Jimdo

You are using neither subdomains nor email adresses from your old registrar. Please note: You will receive 1 email account with your JimdoPro account; you will also receive three email forwarding addresses (aliases) that can forward email to other email addresses. If this describes your situation, please ask the domain registrar to change the nameserver (DNS) to Jimdo (or do it yourself).

Change the DNS entries for your domain to:

ns1.jimdo.com
ns2.jimdo.com

Transfer a domain to Jimdo

You can only transfer your already existing domain from your old provider to Jimdo, if it is a .de, .com, .net or .org domain.

Important: When transfering a domain, all content on your website will be lost. If you want to use the content on your new page, make sure to back it up before starting the transfer. Email accounts will also not be transfered. Please remember to secure your data (e-mail, addresses,...) beforehand.

International domains

If you want to transfer your domain to Jimdo, please get in touch with your old domain registrar and cancel your contract with them. Also ask the registrar to release your domain (for transfer purposes), and for the AUTH-Code, which we (and our domain partner InterNetX) need to transfer the domain.

Once we've received the AUTH-Code, we will then initiate the domain transfer.

The domain's admin-c (administrative contact, usually this is you) will receive a transfer request which has to be confirmed within five days. If you're not sure whether or not the admin-c e-mail address is yours, please use Whois, so you can be certain that the confirmation mail will be sent to you.

Once you have confirmed the request, the same request will be sent to the former provider, which it'll have to confirm as well. That being done, the admin-c will get another confirmation mail. The transfer of international domains takes approximately four to ten days.

In some cases, the domain is locked by the provider. If you're in such a situation, you need to ask your provider to unlock it before we can start the transferring process.

So, to sum up, this is what you need to do:

- Cancel your contract with your old registrar and ask the registrar to release your domain for transfer purposes

- Request the AUTH-Code from your registrar

- Send the AUTH-Code (domain password) to Jimdo

- Jimdo transfers the domain and lets you know once everything is completed
