Jimdo Brings Pages to the People in the United States!

San Francisco, April 26, 2011 -, the global free website creation tool, has “stormed the beaches” of San Francisco to scale its American user base in person. The new Jimdo office, which opened a month ago, is located in San Francisco’s Mission District and is staffed by a team headed by country manager Powen Shiah and co-founder Christian Springub.

Jimdo has 3.5 million users in Europe, Asia, and South America, ranks #774 overall on Alexa worldwide, and is in the top 500 sites in fifteen countries. Quantcast measures that Jimdo reaches about 10 million people monthly worldwide with over 100 million impressions.

“We’re known for our customer service, so we knew we shouldn’t do this launch from abroad,“ says Springub. “I volunteered to move over here and lead our North American expansion.“

Jimdo is starting with a blogger campaign, mailing 200 bottles with sand picked off beaches in both Germany and San Francisco to targeted members of the press. “It’s a variant on the ‘message in a bottle,’ but here the bottle is the message.“ says Springub, who enlisted his mother and grandmother to help him fill bottles of sand and pack boxes for the mailing.

About Jimdo

Jimdo -- Pages to the People ( was founded in February 2007 by three young entrepreneurs-- Christian Springub, Fridtjof Detzner, and Matthias Henze. In an old farmhouse in 2004, the three started a web agency for small businesses. The technology powering Jimdo was first developed so business clients could easily edit and update their sites, but frequent requests from friends gave the founders the idea to offer free JimdoPages. In just a few minutes, anyone - no technical knowledge required - can get a website online, complete with blog, photo galleries, video, online store, and more. In February 2011, the 3,500,000th Jimdo site went online.
