Fortunately, it\u2019s never been easier to add a donate button and accept donations&nbsp;directly through your website, and there are lots of different ways&nbsp;to do it.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you want to keep transaction costs low or you\u2019re looking for some bells and whistles, here are our suggestions for ways to take&nbsp;donations on your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimdo.com\/website\/how-to-create\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jimdo website<\/a>:<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2>Fundraising transaction fees<\/h2>\n<p>First, let&#8217;s talk about the dreaded transaction fees. Nowadays it\u2019s standard for donors to make donations via credit card. But this means that you\u2019re going to have to deal with credit card processing fees.<\/p>\n<p>This may seem like highway robbery, but one way to think about it is that by accepting credit cards, you\u2019ll likely get more donations than you would without it, which makes up for the added fees.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you stick with the big companies (PayPal and Stripe, for example), you\u2019ll pay a lower rate than if you use an online fundraising tool, but you won\u2019t get as many features. (Check out NerdWallet for a more recent comparison of transaction fees).<\/li>\n<li>Be sure to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.merchantmaverick.com\/nonprofit-organizations-pay-processing-fees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ask if they give discounts for nonprofit organizations<\/a>. Many payment processors will give you a break on fees if you can demonstrate that you are a registered nonprofit organization or charity.<\/li>\n<li>No matter what option you choose, you can be comfortable knowing that <b><strong>Jimdo never takes a transaction fee<\/strong><\/b> from any of the sales or donations on your website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ok, now back to the different options:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>1. The Big Payment Processors<\/h2>\n<p>Using one of the big payment processors to take donations comes with a few advantages.&nbsp;They have the lowest rates, they have trusted brands that people recognize, and many people already have accounts with them so that\u2019s one less step to deal with.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, they have fewer customization options. They also weren\u2019t built with nonprofit donations in mind, so it\u2019s harder to set up recurring donations, suggested donation amounts, or use other charity-specific payment features.<\/p>\n<h3>Add a PayPal Donate Button<\/h3>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-screenshot alignright wp-image-3414 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.jimdo.com/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/1479753784.png?resize=200%2C74&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"paypal donate button\" width=\"200\" height=\"74\">PayPal is by far the most popular option. They have low processing rates (registered nonprofits can apply for a special discount on processing fees, 2.2% + $.30 per transaction)vand&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/developer.paypal.com\/docs\/classic\/paypal-payments-standard\/integration-guide\/donate_step_1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">their widget is incredibly easy to add to your website<\/a>. Donors don\u2019t need to have a PayPal account, either\u2014they can check out as a guest with a credit or debit card.<\/p>\n<p>On the downside,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/developer.paypal.com\/docs\/classic\/paypal-payments-standard\/integration-guide\/subscribe_step_1\/#enter-basic-subscription-information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">it\u2019s a little complicated to create a recurring payment option<\/a>&nbsp;with PayPal. Stripe probably has one of the nicest checkout flows compared to PayPal. With Stripe, you can do more than just install a button. You can put the entire payment widget right on your web page, so people don\u2019t have to leave your site at all.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, if you\u2019re not a registered nonprofit, you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paypal.com\/us\/webapps\/mpp\/fundraising\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">can still use PayPal or Stripe for personal fundraisers<\/a>\u2014you\u2019ll just have to pay the normal transaction fees. Raise Money with the Store Item Element<\/h2>\n<p>You can also collect donations on your website with <a href=\"https:\/\/help.jimdo.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/115005521803\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Store Item Elements<\/a>.&nbsp;With the Jimdo e-commerce tools,&nbsp;<span style=\"font-weight: 700 !important;\">you can accept payment via check or PayPal. JimdoBusiness subscribers can also accept Stripe<\/span>. Here\u2019s more information about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/help.jimdo.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/115005523583\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">how payment options work in your Jimdo online store<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you are selling t-shirts, mugs, or other swag to raise money, you would <a href=\"https:\/\/help.jimdo.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/115005521583\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">set up your items&nbsp;<\/a>just like you would any normal store product.<\/p>\n<p>Another option is to create other kinds of intangible \u201cproducts\u201d that people can purchase as donations, and describe how they will contribute to the cause (see the example below). In this case, you would also indicate in your Store Item Element options that the item cannot be shipped so that your customers won\u2019t be charged shipping. Online Fundraising Tools<\/h2>\n<p>With the success of Kickstarter and other crowdfunding tools, online fundraising tools are booming. These services have higher transaction fees, but they also provide more customization options for your embeddable donation buttons&nbsp;and more tools to help you keep track of your donor lists. In other words, they provide more of a \u201cnonprofit dashboard\u201d than you would get from services like PayPal or Stripe. &nbsp;Another advantage is that they integrate with your social media and emailing services.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Online fundraising services are usually free to sign up for and do not have a monthly fee. You\u2019ll typically pay a service fee for each donation <em>in addition<\/em> to the payment processing fees.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jimdo-alert\"><b>Note:<\/b> Many of these services still depend on PayPal or Stripe as their payment processors, so if you\u2019re trying to avoid PayPal, look closely at the fine print.<\/div>\n<p>If you go with one of these companies, make sure you aren\u2019t paying for too many features you won\u2019t use. For example, in most cases, they provide some sort of landing page on their website, so if you already have your own website that might be a bit redundant.<\/p>\n<p>That said, they can have some cool features specifically built for online fundraisers.<\/p>\n<p>Three options that we like in the Jimdo Support Team are <b><strong>Razoo, Fundly, and DonorBox<\/strong><\/b>, but there are many others that can work with your particular language and country. If you&#8217;re unsure, contact Jimdo Support in your language and they can make a recommendation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Razoo<\/h3>\n<p>One cool thing about Razoo is that you can sign up to take donations for your own personal cause (going to your own bank account via Stripe) or to one of the thousands of existing charities. Razoo charges 4.9% per donation, plus the Stripe fees. Another plus is that donation forms can be localized in different languages and can accept multiple currencies.<\/p>\n<h3>Fundly<\/h3>\n<p>Fundly is popular for nonprofits and people who just want to raise money for their own personal \u201ccauses,\u201d like that trip to Brazil you\u2019ve been dreaming about. Fundly charges a <a href=\"https:\/\/fundly.com\/pricing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">4.9% fee on each donation + payment processing fee<\/a>. Right now Fundly is <a href=\"https:\/\/support.fundly.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/206308598-Can-non-US-based-organizations-individuals-use-Fundly-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">available in the US only<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also worth checking out when and how these services deposit funds into your account. Fundly sends you your money in 24-48 hours, Razoo pays out on the 10th of every month, and Donorbox says that it gives you immediate access to your funds.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"button-iwjKgW\"><a class=\"iwjKgW\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.jimdo.com\/wizard\/?account=0\" rel=\u201dfollow\u201d target=\"_blank\">Create your website<\/a><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>How to add a donate button or checkout form on your website<\/h2>\n<p>No matter which service you choose, you\u2019ll start by opening an account with them and adjusting your settings there. They\u2019ll usually walk you through a few options: naming your campaign, specifying which fields you want donors to fill out, choosing your colors if possible. Then, paste the code and hit Save. Voila! Then recopy the adjusted code, and re-paste it into the Widget\/HTML Element on your website.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>As you can see, there are plenty of ways to take donations through your Jimdo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimdo.com\/website\/website-builder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">nonprofit website<\/a>.
