EU legal guarantee notice and GARAN label: What does your online store need?
From 27 September 2026, if you sell goods to consumers, you must inform them about the legal guarantee in your online store using a standardized EU notice. If the producer offers a free commercial guarantee of durability of more than two years, you also need the GARAN label. Our free check shows you in three quick questions what you need – and what’s already taken care of in a Jimdo store.

What do you use to sell online?
That way, at the end we can tell you exactly what’s already done and what you still need to do.
Jimdo store: The legal guarantee notice is already built in
If you sell through a Jimdo store with an online store plan, you don’t need to worry about the legal guarantee notice: since 14 September 2026, Jimdo has automatically included it in your store – in color, unaltered and in your website’s language. The only thing you upload yourself is the GARAN label, if one of your producers offers a qualifying guarantee.
Legal guarantee notice
- in the checkout as a link next to the terms and conditions and the cancellation policy
- as a permanent link in your website’s footer
- as a PDF attached to every order confirmation
- with a QR code and a text link to the EU’s Your Europe website
No extra cost and no setup. For languages without an official EU version, Jimdo uses the English version. Here’s how to check: go through checkout in your store up to the last step before the order button.
GARAN label
- Request the guarantee details and the full guarantee terms from the producer
- Create the label with the generator above
- Upload the PNG file as a product image for the relevant product
- Add the guarantee terms to your store so they can be viewed before purchase
- Send the label to your customers as a PDF after they order
Most stores don’t need a GARAN label – you only need one for a free producer guarantee of more than two years that covers the whole product.
No Jimdo store yet? With Jimdo, the legal guarantee notice is included automatically from day one – just like the withdrawal button.

EU legal guarantee notice and GARAN label compared
Both come from the same EU rules but serve different purposes: the legal guarantee notice reminds consumers of their legal rights, while the GARAN label shows a voluntary guarantee from the producer.
| Topic | Legal guarantee notice | GARAN label |
|---|---|---|
| What’s it about? | A notice about the legal guarantee of at least two years | A free commercial guarantee of durability from the producer, lasting more than two years |
| Who needs it? | Every business that sells goods to consumers | Sellers whose products have such a producer guarantee – once the producer informs them about it |
| How many? | One for your whole store | One for each product concerned |
| Where in your online store? | Before the order is placed: on the product page or centrally in the cart or checkout | Only on the product detail page of the product concerned, not in the cart |
| After the purchase | On a durable medium, e.g. as a PDF in the order confirmation | Likewise, e.g. as a PDF by email – plus the full guarantee terms |
| What can you change? | Nothing – you only choose the language | Only the producer, model identifier and guarantee period |
| In your Jimdo store | Built in automatically – you don’t have to do anything | You upload the label as a product image and send it as a PDF after the order |
| Official name | Harmonised notice on the legal guarantee of conformity | Harmonised label for the commercial guarantee of durability |
How to add the legal guarantee notice and GARAN label to your online store
You’re ready to go in four steps. Online, one rule always applies: the notice and the GARAN label must both be in color, displayed in full and easy to read. With a Jimdo store, you can skip steps 1 and 2 – the legal guarantee notice is already built in.
Download the legal guarantee notice
Select your store’s languages in the check and download the original files from the European Commission. Don’t modify them.
Show it before the order is placed
Show the notice on the product page or centrally in the cart or checkout. A link only in the footer or in the terms and conditions is not enough.
Put the GARAN label on the product page
If there’s a free producer guarantee of more than two years, create the label with the producer, model and guarantee period, and show it on the product detail page – not in the cart.
Send them after the purchase
Both the notice and the GARAN label must be provided on a durable medium along with the other mandatory information, for example as a PDF in the order confirmation.
