With the 2012 London Olympics right around the corner, some of you will be inspired to channel that excitement and get into shape. To help you get off to a great start, we asked Monica Torland, a strength and rehab personal trainer, for a few healthy workout tips for all our Jimdo readers. Why did you become a trainer and sports therapist?
I've always wanted to work in the sport and fitness industry as this has always been one of my greatest interests. Having played semi-professional football (the kind you kick not throw) and represented my country Norway on several occasions, I realized early on the importance of the physical aspect of sport. I also had a back injury when I was 14-years-old and this highlighted the importance a good rehabilitation program plays in helping injured athlethes like myself come back to full fitness as soon as possible.
What's the most rewarding part about your work?
Without a doubt seeing people reach their goals. Everyone has different goals so this can mean winning an important match or just getting into a favorite dress before a set date. It is also great when I get to help people return to play from an injury and support them in their recovery.
What exercise tips would you give Jimdo readers?
What I believe in is actually quite boring: don’t overcomplicate things and keep your training simple! Here are my tips for Jimdo readers:
I see you've been blogging for quite some time, what benefits have you gotten from it?
Blogging is a great way to share your knowledge and views on training. Plus, it is also a great way to create a network with other professionals in my field of strength and conditioning training.
Why did you choose Jimdo to build your website?
Jimdo had all the features I wanted and needed in a website builder. It is user friendly, which to me was the biggest selling point. I wanted to be able to edit the website in my own time without needing too much IT knowledge. It is also easy to get in contact with anyone on the Jimdo team if I ever need any help or guidance.
Is there anything else you'd like to share with the Jimdo community?
Training is a lifestyle. Being healthy and in good shape takes a lot of hard work, but like with everything else in this life, nothing worth fighting for is easy! Find something you enjoy, doing that is the main thing!
I wish all the sporty people out there a great Olympic Summer! Even though I want Norway to get as many medals as possible, I also wish Great Britain the best of luck :).
